Dr. Tamer Taskin graduated from Istanbul Technical University Electronics and Communication Engineering Department in 1983. In the same year, he started to his master’s degree in Control and System Engineering at the Electrical Engineering Department of Istanbul Boğaziçi University, where he was also appointed as a Research Assistant. He received his Master’s (MPhil) degree in Electrical Engineering from Birmingham University in 1985 as a Turkish State Railways sponsored student. He completed his PhD studies at the same university on “Centralized Control of Rail Transportation Systems” with the financial support of Queenslands Railways of Australia.
Between 1990 and 1993, he worked as Project Engineer in Alstom on “London Docklands Light Railway Project”, where he was responsible for the development and field implementation of the Automatic Train Operation and Supervision Systems. Between 1993 and 1996, he worked in the Engineering Department of London Underground as the Senior R&D Engineer and managed the development of LUL’s Network Simulation System and Central Line Automatic Traffic Regulation System with Siemens.
Dr. Tamer Taskin founded his mass transit & rail design and consultancy company Transportation Technologies UK in 1996. Through this company he participated in several capital investment projects in London until 2012 in senior technical and managerial positions, including LUL Jubilee Line Extension Centralised Control System (with Thales), Thameslink 2000 (Network Rail), ERTMS National Programme (Railways Standards and Safety Board), ICONIS Transportation Management System (Alstom), London Underground Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines Renewal Project (Thales).
On his return to Turkey in 2013 Dr. Tamer Taskin was appointed as the General Manager of IDIS, the road/rail technologies arm of Yapi Merkezi Holding. YM IDIS currently designs and manages the signalling, telecommunications and other low voltage system contents of YM’s major rail projects in Turkey, Algeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania. It also researches, designs, integrates and supplies key subsystems of these projects including interlocking systems, LX systems, Alarm/SCADA systems, ticketing and fare collection systems, freight management systems, rolling stock management systems, passenger information systems, public announcement systems etc. with the aim of contributing the development of national rail systems industry and increasing the Turkish-origin content of YM Rail projects in Turkey and abroad.
